The invention relates to an imaging system 200, particularly for an operating device 1000 with a device head 100 that can be adjusted in a mobile manner, comprising: - an image data capturing unit 210 with an image recording unit, particularly an operation camera 211, 212, designed to capture image data 300 in an operating environment OU; - an image data processing unit 220 designed to provide the image data; - an image storage unit 230 designed to hold the image data 300 of the operating environment and volume data of a volume representation 320 assigned to the operating environment. Also provided according to the invention are: - a registration means 260 designed to locate the image recording unit, particularly the operating camera 211, 212, relative to the operating environment; - a virtual pointer means 250 designed to make available, particularly to identify and/or to display, a number of surface points OS of the image data 300 automatically; and - an assignment means, particularly with calculating means 240, designed to assign automatically a volume point VP of the volume representation 320 to at least one of the surface points OS made available.
