The head (2) for the vibrometer (1), or for use in an arrangement of multiple heads operating in different directions, can be used for contact-free measurement of the surface vibration (20) of an object (21). The head contains no electronic circuitry but only optical components within which the reflected signal from the object being measured is superimposed on a laser reference beam. This signal is returned to the vibrometer evaluator (4) through multimode light wave conductors (15,16) or fibre-optics bundles. ADVANTAGE - Small size ensures measurement of surface vibration with small signal losses and little electromagnetic interference.
