A shutoff device for gas-conveying lines in systems used in biological process engineering consists of a poppet seat valve, which is attached to the external wall of a reaction container and to which a pipe bend is affixed inside this container. The pipe bend leads into a liquid medium with which the reaction container is filled and into which gas or air is fed from outside by the shutoff device. For the purpose of sterilization when the shutoff device is closed, a valve seat is mounted on the external contour of the pipe bend. This valve seat can be closed via a valve piston which is attached to the valve head of the poppet valve and is firmly connected to this.
