DE 19819889 A UPAB: 20000112 NOVELTY - Isolating nucleic acids (I) from a sample is by treating the sample with an immobilized mixture of DNA molecules (A) that contain only random sequences. (I) that have become bound are then recovered from immobilized (I), optionally after washing. DETAILED DESCRIPTION - An INDEPENDENT CLAIM is also included for an apparatus for isolating (I), particularly by the new method, comprising (A) immobilized on a matrix. ACTIVITY - None given. MECHANISM OF ACTION - None given. USE - The method is used to isolate (I) for environmental analysis, forensic studies, diagnosis and basic research. ADVANTAGE - The method is simple, inexpensive and applicable to samples of all types, organic or inorganic, and produces very pure (I) in a single step. The isolated (I) can be used directly for analysis or preparation, e.g. polymerase chain reaction since it is free of contaminating carbohydrates, fats etc. By using a mixture of all possible (A) sequences, all (I) is captured. The method does not require expensive and time-consuming matching of process conditions for individual samples.
