Title
Adulte pluripotente Stammzellen
Other Title
Isolated, pluripotent adult stem cells, useful for treating injury or disease, e.g. tumors or diabetes, are isolated from exocrine gland tissue.
Abstract

WO2005001072 A UPAB: 20050211 NOVELTY - Isolated, pluripotent adult stem cells (A) obtained from exocrine gland tissue, is new. DETAILED DESCRIPTION - INDEPENDENT CLAIMS are also included for: (1) stem cell cultures that comprise (A) in a culture medium that allows stable maintenance and replication of the cells without significant differentiation; (2) primary stem cell cultures of exocrine gland tissue in which most of the living cells are undifferentiated (A); (3) organoid bodies (OB) obtained by culturing (A) under spatial conditions that provide three-dimensional contact between cells; (4) secondary organoid bodies (OB2) produced from OB by spontaneous growth on surfaces without confined surface adhesion; (5) preparing (A); (6) preparing differentiated cells from (A); (7) differentiated cells (B) obtained from (A); and (8) differentiation culture comprising (B) and/or OB or OB2 in a differentiation medium. ACTIVITY - Immunostimulant; Cytostatic; Hepatotropic; Cardiant; Neuroprotective; Immunosuppressive; Antianemic; Antidiabetic; Antiinflammatory; Antibacterial. No biological data given. MECHANISM OF ACTION - Gene Therapy; Tissue Replacement. USE - (A), also differentiated cells (B) obtained from them, are used for treating injury and disease, either by transplantation or in extracorporeal systems, e.g. for restoring or strengthening the immune system, or where the cells are used as vectors for therapeutic agents (including gene therapy), in cases of tumors; liver, connective tissue, cardiovascular, neurodegenerative, metabolic or autoimmune diseases; anemia; hemophilia; diabetes; ischemia; inflammation; infection; aging; genetic defects and transplant rejection. (A) and (B) can also be used for reproductive cloning of non-human organisms and for in vitro testing of chemicals (drug screening), and the differentiated cells can also be used for in vitro production of substances (all claimed). ADVANTAGE - (A) have essentially the same capacity for self-renewal and differntiation as embryonic stem cells, and can be isolated and cultured very easily.
