Title

Optisches Bauelement zur Frequenzvervielfachung

Other Title
Diffractive optical device generating higher harmonics with good separation from ground wave - has layer transmitting incident wavelength with groups of nonlinear optical zones for diffraction of higher harmonics, useful in integrated nonlinear optical light source and optical data reader and writer.
Abstract
In an optical device with a layer (1) that is optically transmitting for incident electromagnetic waves (4) of at least one wavelength, the layer (1) consists of group(s) of several defined nonlinear optical (NLO) zones (5), which are arranged in the individual groups so that they satisfy the diffraction conditions for a higher harmonic of the incident wavelength (4). USE - The device is used in the production of integrated NLO light sources and for sequential and/or parallel reading and writing of information from and in optically readable data carriers (all claimed). ADVANTAGE - The diffractive device generates higher harmonics of the incident ground wave and separates them from the ground wave. It can be produced cost-effectively and quickly. The device is small, allowing a higher integration density, and has no coupling losses.
