Title
Other Title
New aromatic poly-1,3,4-hetero-diazole polymers, useful in optical devices, especially electroluminescent components such as light-emitting diodes.
Abstract

WO 200014144 A UPAB: 20000522 NOVELTY - Aromatic poly-(1,3,4-heterodiazoles) with 100-1000 repeating units consisting of an aromatic component (substituted 4,4'-biphenylene, 1,4- or 2,6-naphthylene, thiophen-2,5-diyl, pyridine-2,6- or -3,5-diyl or 1,4-phenylene) and a heterodiazole component selected from 1,3,4-thiadiazole-2,5-diyl, 1,3,4-oxadiazole-2,5-diyl and 1-phenyl-1,3,4-triazole-2,5-diyl. DETAILED DESCRIPTION - Aromatic poly-(1,3,4-heterodiazoles) (I) containing 100-1000 repeating units selected from the following formulae, R1-R4 = alkyl, alkoxy, phenyl, phenoxy or a thiophenol group; X = S, O or N-phenyl. INDEPENDENT CLAIMS are also included for: (a) a process for the production of (I) by polycondensation of diacid chlorides and diacid hydrazides corresponding to the above units, followed by ring closure of the resulting poly-hydrazide in presence of a dehydrating agent, isolation of the product and purification; (b) optical devices containing (I), especially electroluminescent components. USE - For the production of electroluminescent and/or electron-transport layers, especially multilayer systems, in optical devices (claimed). Preferred applications are in light emitting diodes. ADVANTAGE - New polymers with excellent electroluminescent and/or electron-transport properties, high stability with a high fluorescence quantum yield, very good barrier properties towards holes and very good adaptability of the luminescence energy of the polymer to the electron affinity of the cathode material.
