The unit comprises; a double walled (2,3) heated tank (1), an internal lower base plate (10), slightly inclined from the horizontal, and 1 outlet opening (13), at the lowest position. Immediately above this, the horizontal base plate, forming the floor on which the filling rests, takes the form of a sieve (9). In the open space of the tank, a height adjustable cover (11,11',20), grips gas tight, along the inner wall (3). The entire tank (1) is carried on the transportable under-support (6), by means of interposed weighing units (12). USE - The transportable multi-function disposal plant simulates the long term behaviour of material for disposal, which contains organic components, eg. household waste for landfill, contaminated earth for reinstatement and composting materials. ADVANTAGE - The plant described simulates conditions under disposal, and has a range of functions. It may be adapted flexibility, to carry out a wide range of tests and experiments on all kinds of polluted ground. Functions previously carried out in the laboratory can be simulated on a more representative scale; and measurements can be taken using a variety of added instrumentations. Load-cells facilitate the measurement of inventory and change, and transportability allows on-site or remote testing. Costly simulations once carried out individually in the laboratory may now be run in sequence or simultaneously as required, in one unit, economically.
