Die Erfindung betrifft ein Verfahren zur Herstellung einer photovoltaischen Solarzelle mit den VerfahrensschrittenA. Bereitstellen mindestens eines Solarzellenprecursors mit zumindest einer Basis und zumindest einem Emitter;B. Anordnen einer Metallfolie an einer Rückseite des Solarzellenprecursors, so dass die Metallfolie mit der Basis oder dem Emitter elektrisch leitend verbunden ist, wobei die Metallfolie als integraler Bestandteil der Rückseitenkontaktierung und die Solarzelle an der Rückseite abschließend ausgebildet wird.Die Erfindung ist dadurch gekennzeichnet, dass die Metallfolie mit zumindest einem Zellverbindungsbereich an zumindest einer Seite den Rand des Solarzellenprecursors um zumindest 1 mm überragt, bevorzugt um mindestens 3 mm.
