The invention relates to an optical detection system (2) and a closed measuring cell for the detection of aerosols in an aerosol volumetric flow. According to the invention, a proposal is made for a measuring cell (3) having a longitudinal shape, whereby the volumetric flow of the aerosol (11) is encompassed by a clean air flow (12) and whereby the total resulting volumetric flow (13) is fed below the optical detection system (2) from top to bottom by means of a pump. The ratio between the volumentric flow of the aerosol (11) and the total volumetric flow (13) is in the range between 0.40 and 0.50.
