Title
Steuerbarer elektrischer Leiter
Other Title
Controllable electrical conductor based on electron wave principle - uses DeBroglie wave theory applied to conductive structures to make thermistor and transistor devices.
Abstract

DE 3810768 A UPAB: 19930923 A typical structure consists of a narrow conducting material region (1) joined by tapered transition conductors (2,2') to connecting conductors (3,3') e.g. a planar structure of thin film metal on an insulating substrate. If the narrow region (1) is so dimensionsed that the largest transverse measurement (5) is smaller than the so-called thermal half-wavelength of the electrons, virtually no electrical current flow can occur between the connecting conductors (3,3') even with appreciable potential difference. Hot electrons defined by possession of higher intrinsic velocities may be generated by an acceleration region with the additional electrodes (6,6') to generate a local electric field. The wavelength for these hot electrons is smaller, in proportion to velocity and, corresp. to the critical dimension (5), the accelerating voltage controls current flow. The basic control principle extends to a variety of materials and structures for the creation of COW thermistors and semiconductor components in individual or array forms. USE/ADVANTAGE - Partic. applicable to i.r. technology. Allows small geometrical structures of high packing density. 1/3
