The element has an electrically conductive layer whose electrodes (2, 3) are separated by an electrically insulating element (5). The insulating element is applied on a surface of an electrode (1) of another electrically conductive layer and/or a surface of a substrate (6) such that the insulating element has height and width, and is electrically conductive via the former conductive layer. The insulating element readily protrudes into an outline of the former conductive layer in an upper edge region, and actuating of the former conductive layer is segmented into individual electrodes. The electrically insulating element is made of electrically insulating material e.g. polymer, glass, ceramic or metal oxide. An independent claim is also included for a method for manufacturing an organic LED or organic photovoltaic element.
