The description refers to a buckling spring comprising a buckling rod and at least one bearing arranged at the end of the buckling rod. The buckling rod (1, 6, 5, 14, 16, 17) comprises a highly elastic material whose ratio between the modulus of elasticity and the flexural strength has a value of < 100 and elongation at rupture is greater than 2%. Through the use of a counterbearing, the deformation of the buckling rod can be limited. The buckling spring can be used as a machine element for the deformation-dependent or deformation-independent control and limitation of forces.
