The invention relates to a process for the production of partly substituted, soluble cellulose sulphate with the following process steps: a) that a homogenous solution of cellulose 2.5 acetate is produced in an aprotic polar solution, b) that the sulphatizing reagency is added dropwise under conditions acting as non-sulphatizing and distributed in the solution, c) that this is followed by performance of sulphatizing into DS<-S values from 0.3 to 0.5, and d) that the obtained cellulose acetate sulphate is converted, cleaned and dried in more or less known ways by alkaline deacetylizing in cellulose suplhate (SC)
