Abstract
Hard material-reinforced Al2O3 sintered ceramic of at least 98.5% relative density and having a homogeneous intergranular structural dispersed structure comprises a structure containing a corundum matrix with 0-15 vol.% ZrO2 and 5-50 vol.% of a hard material phase based on TiCxNyOz (where z>0.10 or z at least 0.05 and (x+y+z) at most 0.95 of the hard phase). The average grain size of each individual phase in the structure is <1 mu m, and the structure has a high Vickers hardness of HV10 at least 2100. Production of the sintered ceramic is also claimed. USE - As cutting material, grinding material and also for magnetic lead substrates in data storage.
