The invention relates to a device for the storage and playback of audio signals. It comprises an input circuit (3) to convert an applied analogue audio signal into a digital signal and to process the digital signals into digital data with a reduced number of bits, and furthermore a semiconductor memory (4) to store the reduced digital data and an output circuit (5) to convert the reduced digital data back into analogue signals. The individual components of the device can either be integrated separately or together on one or several semiconductor chips.
