Title

Verfahren zur Abtrennung suspendierter Feststoffe

Other Title
Separating suspended solids from aqueous media, useful e.g. in microelectronics, food, pharmaceutical or textile industries, comprises using a highly-charged cationic poly-electrolyte with hydrophobic residues as flocculating agent
Abstract

DE 102005009809 A1 UPAB: 20061127 NOVELTY - Separating suspended solids from aqueous media comprises mixing the medium with a flocculating agent consisting of a highly-charged cationic polyelectrolyte with hydrophobic residues and then separating the flocculated material from the medium. USE - The highly-charged cationic polyelectrolytes with hydrophobic residues are used for separating suspended solids from aqueous media, especially slurries from the microelectronics industry and waste water from pharmaceutical-, food or textile industries (claimed). Other fields of application include paper production, metals, ceramics, printing, biotechnology and cosmetics. ADVANTAGE - The method provides a wide flocculation window and overcomes the problems associated with prior-art methods, i.e. in the separation of suspensions containing finely-divided particles with a low surface charge, suspensions with a low solid content, suspensions containing large amounts of interfering auxiliary substances (surfactants, stabilizers, pigments, oils), and concentrated slurries containing particles with a very wide particle size distribution.
