DE 102006031483 A1 UPAB: 20080131 NOVELTY - Transgenic cell for specific detection of a pyrogen in a sample comprises a gene coding for a toll-like receptor and a reporter gene whose expression is under the control of a NF-kappaB-inducible promoter. DETAILED DESCRIPTION - INDEPENDENT CLAIMS are also included for: (1) kit for specific detection of a pyrogen in a sample, comprising a culture vessel with a cell as above; (2) specific detection of a pyrogen in a sample by incubating the sample with a cell as above and detecting enzyme activity mediated by induction of the reporter gene; (3) use of a cell as above to screen for toll-like receptor antagonists or for oligonucleotides with CpG motifs. USE - The transgenic cell is useful for specific detection of a pyrogen in a clinical sample and for testing products for absence of pyrogens (claimed). The clinical sample is especially blood and the products are especially medical instruments or medical products or pharmaceutical or food products. ADVANTAGE - The cell provides and simple and rapid test for detecting and differentiating causative agents of sepsis.
