Beschrieben wird eine Glasscheibe mit wenigstens einen die Glasscheibe begrenzenden Kantenabschnitt, zu dessen Herstellung die Glasscheibe längs des Kantenabschnittes mit Hilfe eines thermischen Energieeintrags aufgetrennt worden ist. Die Erfindung zeichnet sich dadurch aus, dass zumindest abschnittsweise, vorzugsweise der gesamte Kantenabschnitt von einer Ummantelung umgeben ist.
