The invention relates to methods and means for the non-destructive characterization of biological tissue in vitro and in particular the determination of the effect of substances on said biological tissue, or the determination of the maturity or degree of differentiation of said tissue, using non-invasive and in particular recurrent measurable electric variables. These variables can be calculated, by means of a novel method, from the measured electrical impedance of the biological tissue.
