The invention relates to processes and the corresponding device for the forced switch-off of manually guided resources in working situations such as canting, blocking or destroying a rotary tool. The resource bears the material abrasively away from the workpiece and is in form-fitting and frictional-locking contact with the workpiece. The solution according to the invention intends to perform switch-off reliably and with little effort in order to reduce danger to the operating personnel in emergency situations. To achieve this, the vibrational acceleration of the resource is measured and the function a(t) in a specified time interval (T) of constant size is determined from the individual measured values. A comparison is then made whether any zero crossing of this function a(t) occurs within the time interval (T). If all function values within time interval (T) are outside the zero crossing, a switch-off signal is generated, thus switching off the resource.
