Title
Diamantschicht mit optimierten Oberflaecheneigenschaften
Other Title
Textured diamond layer, for a machining tool, pressing tool, shaping tool or machine component, has a specific controlled surface roughness preferably containing another material.
Abstract

DE 19850346 A UPAB: 20000706 NOVELTY - A (100) textured diamond layer has a specific adjustable surface roughness. DETAILED DESCRIPTION - INDEPENDENT CLAIMS are also included for the following: (i) production of the above diamond layer by two-stage vapor phase growth of (100) oriented diamond crystals on a substrate, the preferred direction of crystal growth being perpendicular to the substrate surface in the first stage and being horizontal in the second stage; and (ii) a tool or component coated with the above diamond layer. Preferred Features: The layer has A1 recesses occupying 30-90% of its total surface. The surface recesses are (partially) filled with one or more different materials selected from solid or liquid lubricants, a sulfide, Teflon (RTM), soft metals, layers of DLC (diamond-like carbon) and its modifications and silicone. The layer is deposited by hot filament CVD using a first stage reaction gas mixture containing added nitrogen and/or having a higher carbon compound concentration than that in the second stage and/or using higher filament and substrate temperatures in the second stage. USE - As a coating for a tool, such as a machining tool (e.g. a throwaway cutter tip, miller or drill bit), pressing tool (e.g. ceramic, hard metal or tablet pressing tool) or shaping tool (e.g. a deep drawing tool), or a component such as a bearing, piston/cylinder unit (e.g. chemical pump) or guide element (e.g. linear guide or thread guide). ADVANTAGE - The controlled surface roughness of the diamond layer can be (partially) filled with one or more other materials to provide various properties, e.g. non-stick, lubricating and non-fouling properties, in addition to wear and friction resistance.
