The method involves producing surface structure (6) in the plastic substrate (1) by a plasma etch process. The depth of the surface structure is set to 50 Nm. The projections (7) are extended into plastic substrate so that the paint layer is applied to the plastic substrate. The width of the paint layer is between 10-120 Nm. The thin layer (2) is made up of oxide layer, nitride layer or fluoride layer. An independent claim is included for plastic substrate.
