Abstract
WO 200207346 A UPAB: 20020613 NOVELTY - The device acts as a converter with a saturable amplifying region for transferring an input signal from a primary carrier signal to an un modulated carrier signal of a different wavelength. The overall length of the amplifying region is ten to a hundred times the saturation length. The un modulated carrier signal has a non-zero power lower than the primary carrier signal to set a threshold characteristic. DETAILED DESCRIPTION - The device acts as a converter with a saturable amplifying region for transferring an input signal from a primary carrier signal to an un modulated carrier signal of a different wavelength to produce an amplified output signal of the first wavelength and an amplified, modulated output signal of the second wavelength with an overall length of the amplifying region greater than the length required for maximum amplification into saturation. The overall length lies in the range of ten to a hundred times the saturation length. The un modulated carrier signal has a lower but non-zero power than the primary carrier signal to set a threshold characteristic. INDEPENDENT CLAIMS are also included for the following: the use of a purely optical waveguide component as converter in a rapid equalizer, as a polarization converter for data signals with different data pulse heights and up to ultrahigh bit rates and to form a rapid equalizer and/or decision stage. in a 3R generator. USE - For optical transmission systems, especially for a fast decision device. ADVANTAGE - Is simple to produce in polarization-independent form.
