Title

Horizontal-Wirbelstromsensor

Other Title
Horizontal eddy-current sensor
Abstract
Known eddy-current sensors are either too expensive to produce or cannot induce the magnetic alternating field selectively in the object under test or have a very low resolution capability or are very large, etc. In most cases, several of these disadvantages occur together. In the eddy-current sensor according to the invention, the axis of the sensor coils (1, 2) are arranged horizontally above the test surface 87). The coils comprise a ferrite core (3), both ends of which are designed in the form of legs (4, 5) which are angled in the direction of the test surface and which are tapered at their ends. Very low field losses occur in the air gaps (10, 11) as a result of the low gap length. The interaction surface is small, the resolution capacity is very good and is mainly independent of the size of the sensor. Other relevant advantages of the sensor include its high immunity to distance, its capacity to induce the magnetic alternating field in a highly selected manner in the uni t under test and its working capacity over large distances to the object under test. The sensor is excellently suited for the detection of features with a distinctive orientation
