Title
Verfahren und Vorrichtung zur Immobilisierung von radioaktiven Wasserinhaltsstoffen
Other Title
Removal of radioactive contaminants from aqueous mining effluent - comprises a continuous single step process using organic polymer and aluminosilicate to remove uranium, plutonium, alkali metals and alkaline earth metals.
Abstract
A method for immobilising radioactive contents of water, especially for removing caesium 137, strontium 90, uranium and plutonium compounds from water, comprises a single step process which uses an organic polymer aggregate with amide oxime and hydroxamic acid groups to separate uranium and plutonium and also uses aluminosilicates to separate alkali(ne earth) metals. Contaminated water is added continuously and both effluent water and sludge are continuously removed. The sludge waste product from this process is converted into a glass to prevent radioactive substances being leached out.The apparatus used in this method is also claimed. USE - Used for the treatment of mining effluent, especially where radioactive materials are being mined. ADVANTAGE - Radioactive contaminants are removed in a continuous single step process, forming less waste material. The sludge waste can be converted into a leach-proof glass.
