In a device (10) for automatically changing tools (11) used in the manufacture of blind riveted joints, a rear tool part (13) fitted with a drive unit (16) is attached to a robot arm and a front tool part (12) is fitted with a mouthpiece matching the shape of the rivet head. The front part (12) and the rear part (13) of the tool (11) are joined together in an automatically detaching joint. A tool changing device (14) is provided, in which the front part of the tool (12) is detachable and removable when the rear part of the tool is used and in which the rear part of the tool (13) can be coupled to the front part of the tool (12). In this way, connections using blind rivets with different geometries and/or types can be produced with little retooling required. In this case, only one part of the tool (11) need be changed.
