Abstract
A plasma treatment using a gaseous or vaporous unsaturated organic compound, whose unsaturated grouping preferably contains more than one Pi electron pair bound to carbon or nitrogen atoms, e.g. acetylene, or nitrogen, if necessary together with oxygen or hydrogen, is used to generate silicon-oxide scratch-proof layers on plastics such as polymethyl methacrylate or polycarbonate, by plasma coating using a gaseous organic silane and/or organic siloxane before or during the plasma coating process.
