A survey conducted in the German maritime industry underpins the enormous heterogeneity in 3D tools and formats. Together with various other technical and organizational challenges, the usage of 3D models is not as efficient and established in the product lifecycle as it could be. The author presents a lightweight approach where the accurate 3D geometry is replaced by a visualization model which has a small footprint and much less sensitive data compared to the original CAD model. This derived model offers the chance to improve usage of 3D data over the whole lifecycle of maritime assets.en3D formats3D visualizationmaritime graphics0063D beyond CAD - Supporting the Lifecycle of Maritime Assets with Lightweight 3D Formats and Lightweight Application Provisioningconference paper
