A number of partners collaborated for two years in the context of the European CAFÉ project to jointly research how quality can be built into product family architectures and how the quality of product family architectures can be assessed. The main achievement of the collaboration is a common general process for design for quality accompanied by a metamodel that both have been instantiated by the different partners for their respective organizational context and projects. This paper briefly introduces this general process and metamodel.1 Introduction S.1 2 Collaboration S.2-11 - 2.1 Identify Required Properties S.3-4 - 2.2 Specify Required Properties S.5-6 - 2.3 Define Means to Achieve Properties S.6-8 - 2.4 Map Properties to Viewpoints S.8 - 2.5 Design S.9-10 - 2.6 Assessment of the Results S.10 - 2.7 Derivation S.10-11 - 2.8 Recover Means to Achieve Properties S.11 3 Conclusions S.12-13 - Acknowledgements S.13 References S.14-17enproduct line architecturenon-functional requirementqualityquality modelpatternITEACafé004005006Design for Qualityreport
