A recommended control mode of reactive power is required to have a more stable and efficient operation in distribution networks; and to meet the grid connection guidelines for renewable energy power generation units. In this paper, four reactive power control modes of distributed energy resources are reviewed and analysed. The simulation is implemented by an open-source tool pandapower after adopting a medium voltage level grid from SimBench. After that, the performance of those different reactive power control strategies is compared and analysed in the aspect of voltage stability and power losses.enPerformance analysis of reactive power control modes of distributed generation in power systemsconference paper
