In particular, the restoration of components of Ti and Al base light alloys requires a certain environment to protect the metal melt form oxygen and nitrogen of the atmosphere during the welding process. For this purpose, a controlled atmosphere CAD/CAM cladding system using a sealed-off inert gas chamber has been developed. One example of application is the restoration of integrally bladed rotor disks (blisks) of high-performance aero engines. Using the new technology, a flawless near net-shape generation of t he airfoil profile is possible.
