    DEDICATED: A Distributed Multimedia Learning Environment

    It is widely recognised that there is an increasing need of improving the training and retraining in modern society. Using telecommunication services and information technologies, this need will be fulfilled in the near future. To foster research and application in the area of computer based training, the Commission of the European Community has initiated the programme DELTA (Development of European Learning through Technological Advance). Within DELTA, 22 projects are marking a European basis to achieve new ways of training. The project DEDICATED is based on the idea of a European network of Local Training Centers (LTCs) based on a hardware-independent Modular Training System (MTS). Within the LTCs, courses are developed based on Advanced Learning Technology. The focus of the courses is on teaching computer graphics and applications in the area of CAD and architecture. A special emphasis is on cross platform communication, allowing co-operative work both locally and between the LTCs.

    Technical publishing - a workshop report and first concept for a demonstration project

    To create an overall reference model for the area of Technical Documentation, its data input sources, its processing, and the output capabilities required, FhG-AGD organized a workshop together with participants from the ZGDV member componies. At this workshop a framework was established and areas requiring work were identified. This report gives the results of the workshop. A reference model describes the various system components, data interfaces, and data formats to be integrated. For the different components of this framework, missing parts and features are identifed. To remedy these deficiencies, products are proposed to supply the missing modules. The central, unifying concept is that of a testbed for technical publishing. A test center is proposed to be established to maintain the testbed and use it to certify implemntations, to prototype applications, to evaluate related system architectures, etc. (AGD)
