The OpenPEEM as core for service orchestration within the Open IMS playground at FOKUS

With the rapid development of the mobile industry and the rise of mobile web use, the mobile industry sees great opportunities to offer new intelligent and rich value-added services. But before, some problems such as handle with technical hurdles must be solved. Then the existence of disparate technologies and standards cause problems by deploying these new products. The Open Mobile Alliance (OMA) which defines an architecture named OMA Service Environment (OSE) in which one can take all advantage of the network is emerging in order to satisfy these requirements of the mobile industry. The key component of the OSE is the enabler called Policy Evaluation, Enforcement and Management (PEEM). The PEEM enabler provides the core Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) principles: reuse, delegation, composition. The OSE with a PEEM will facilitate network operators the management, development and deployment of new mobile applications and services in an easier and faster manner as nowadays. Additionally, the OSE architecture can be used in order to migrate to SOA based solutions. In this paper we show how the OSE sits well on top of the IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) architecture at FOKUS - Open IMS Playground. The extension is made in order to enhance the Playground towards a seamless Service Delivery Platform (SDP). IMS and OSA/Parlay play a big role in the OSE architecture, because they facilitate the collaboration between enterprises, mobile operators, mobile content publishers, mobile service providers, and 3rd party service providers. In this context, the Fraunhofer Institute for Open Telecommunication Systems FOKUS designed and implemented the OpenPEEM, an OMA compliant OSE PEEM enabler. OpenPEEM is placed on top of the established Open IMS Playground @ FOKUS taking all the advantages of this Next Generation Network (NGN) Infrastructure.
