Titel
Object-based coding for image communication and multimedia
Abstract
A system concept is presented which has several features useful both for introduction of content-related functionalities required by the MPEG-4 standard and for improvement of encoder efficiency. These goals are achieved through scene segmentation at the transmitter and use of the shape-adaptive discrete cosine transform base system, and through introduction of an object-based toolbox adding object-based prediction techniques to the conventional block-based motion compensation. Another important feature is backwards compatibility with the conventional block-based DCT codec.
