Franco-German experimental programme for the optical characterization of transparent insulation materials
Abstract
Within a Franco-German research program on energy, one topic is the optical and thermal characterisation of innovating transparent materials being undertaken by C.S.T.B./S.M and Fhg/I.S.E. Each team performed measurements using its own exprimental capabilities on selected samples. The measurements include directional hemispherical transmittance over the solar range using a spectrometer with a 3 meter integrating sphere and broadband mesurements with an integrating sphere. The samples tested are glazing units including two glass panes with transparent insulation materials in between or just capillary samples without glazing. The results are presented and discussed, with a special emphasis on the difference occurring for similar measurements on the same sample. This work will permit the assessment of agreed measurement methods to be used to characterize any new complex semi transparent material in each country.
