Solid polymer electrolyte comprises at least one copolymer containing (a) at least one repeating unit derived from a polymerizable ionic liquid having a structure (I) and (b) at least one carbonyl repeating units (II) and/or (III). Solid polymer electrolyte comprises at least one copolymer containing (a) at least one repeating unit derived from a polymerizable ionic liquid having a structure of formula (-[CH 2-C(R1)(C(=O)-O) l-A1-B1]-) (I) and (b) at least one carbonyl repeating units of formula (-[CH 2-C(R1)(C(=O)-O) l-D1-H]-) (II) and/or (III). R1 : H or CH 3; l : 0 or 1; A1, D1 : a mid-block comprising -[(CH 2) m-O]-, -[C(=O)NH]-, -[C(=O)O]-, -[C(=O)-O-C(=O)]- or -[CH 2]-; B1 : cationic residue; and m : 1-12. Independent claims are included for: (1) preparing the solid polymer electrolyte comprising radically polymerizing a reaction mixture comprising at least one polymerizable ionic liquid having a structure of the formula ([CH 2=C(R1)-(C(=O)-O) l]-A1-B1) (IV) and at least one radically polymerizable monomer of formula ([CH 2=C(R1)-(C(=O)-O) l]-D1-H) (V) or (CH 2=C(R1)-(C(=O)-O) l-D1-(O-C(=O)) l-C(R1)=CH 2) (VI), in solvents, and removing the solvents; and (2) an electrical component, preferably a battery, an accumulator, an electrochromic display or a sensor, comprising the solid polymer electrolyte.
