Abstract
DE 3035095 A UPAB: 19930915 The method and arrangement for measuring dispersion in multimode fibres involve measuring the propagation of two different types of light pulses between the output and input and determining the component lost because of the material dispersion. The material and mode dispersion can be separately and simply determined using a light source with a relatively low spectral half width. Light pulses of identical centre wavelength and different bandwidth are passed through the fibre. The propagation values are determined from half widths at the output and input and from the spectral bandwidths. The propagation values are displayed as points on a rectangular coordinate system. The total, mode and material dispersion values can be read from the graph which consists of a straight line fit to the points.
