PPC design and human aspects: Training-on-the-job enhances role-specific skills

Abstract
In designing a Production Planning and Control system (i.e. organization and software), the focus is typically on the realization of its technical aspects, such as the system structure, the software solution, or the algorithms and their parameters. For a successful implementation, however, the users involved have to be taken into account. The paper presents a role-oriented training-on-the-job concept with a modularized structure. Different views structure the required knowledge and categorize it for the training participants. The results of a case study show that an integrated project plan helps to promote the role-specific skills and to meet the defined project goals.
