Abstract
The concept of hybridly 980 nm/1480 nm pumped EDFA is adopted for power amplifiers in AM-TV distribution systems. It is shown by simulation and experiment that an optimum concerning output power and noise figure is achievable by length adjustment of the doped fiber sections. Near-quantum-limited noise figures is achievable by length adjustment of the doped fiber sections. Near-quantum-limited noise figures NF = 3.5 dB for P (IN) = -3 dBm and a pump quantum conversion efficiency eta (QC) = 78 per cent are realized.
