Broadband transmission in coherent frequency multiplex optical fibre networks

Research has already been undertaken into coherent optical carrier frequency systems for long distance transmission and both TV and HDTV systems. The results show great potential for these applications. It is necessary to clarify whether like time multiplexing, these methods are also suitable for switching. The final objective is switching at the optical fibre signal transport level with pure optical signalling in a transparent integrated public optical fibre broadband network with dialogue and distribution services.
