Title

A resonance measurement method for TE01 multimode waveguide elements

Abstract
A technique is described, by which the coupling coefficients between the TE01-wave and parasitic modes in circular waveguide elements with wide cross-sections may be determined through interpretation of resonance characteristics. In simple cylindrical waveguides, the coupling coefficients to the many possible parasitic modes are usually very small. Therefore, the best measurement technique for determining these coefficients is the use of a high-quality transmission resonator. Mode-conversion at other waveguide elements, such as mirrors, tapers, bends, etc., may also be explored with this technique.
