The Mediation between resource requirements and available resources relies on adequate resource description, which becomes a special challenge when the resources are (Grid) services. In addition to the description of service semantics, service quality is another useful selection criteria in effective service mediation. Inspired by the success of community- and usage-pattern-based filtering and recommendation systems for targeted information access, this paper discusses automatic and manual service rating as an option for judging service quality. Such ratings can contribute to targeted service selection and complement the mediation based on service semantics.

;Patil, B. ;Mätzel, K.Neuhold, E.J.Current textual languages (e.g., textual information structures, command and query languages, and programming languages) are neither accessible nor adaptable to the computing requirements of native visually challenged users. In this paper, we identify semantic, syntactic, linguistic and cognitive issues and accessibility factors at various level of human-computer interaction and proposes a inclusive, universal design framework, that enables not only linguistically handicapped users but also visually challenged users to command and operate computers, and learn programming.
PublicationUsing Hypertext Composites in Structured Query and Search( 2001)
;Qiu, Z. ;Hemmje, M.Neuhold, E.J.This paper pro poses a structured query and search model for applying link-based hypertext composites that can be represented with new Web standards in Web searching and describes a primitive prototype system that implements the model. We argue that by enabling users to query different levels of the composite structures with same or different keywords and getting search hits that are not separate nodes but sets of inter-linked nodes, the precision of the search results can be improved. Meanwhile, users may get more contextual information about the search results.

;Huang, L. ;Thiel, U. ;Hemmje, M.Neuhold, E.J.This paper introduces an adaptive method that can be used to construct the query user interfaces for the information integration systems (IIS) on the Web, and a constraint-based method for mapping queries from such IISs into the specific formats of heterogeneous Internet sources. The fuse of this research was ignited by witnessing that WWW information searching becomes harder and harder due to the tremendous development of the Internet and the explosive growth of digital information on the World Wide Web. Incorporating adaptive and constraints-coordinated mechanisms into an information integration system can overcome the diversity of heterogeneous sources and utilize the functionality of the individual sources to the fullest extent.
