    In today's highly competitive global economy, the demand for high-quality products manufactured at low costs with shorter cycle times has forced a number of manufacturing industries to consider various new product design, manufacturing, and management strategies. Recently, due to the rapid advances in Information Technology (IT), new paradigms have successively emerged such as CIM, JIT, lean manufacturing, concurrent engineering, business process engineering and more enterprise engineering (EE). Enterprise modeling is currently in use either as a technique to represent and understand the structure and behavior of the enterprise, or as a technique to analyze business processes, and in many cases as support technique for business process reengineering. However, architectures and methods for EE have also to cover the integration of quality, information system, cost, human and organizational aspects and have to support the EE process from goal and requirements definition up to implementation and operation (Vernadat, 1999. Proceedings of CARS&FOF 99 Conference, Aquas de Lindoia, Brazil). This paper provides an overview of architectures, methods and tools for EE. It then points out substantial results achieved so far as well as presents a methodology and a related tool in more detail, which supports all phases and aspects of EE.

    Success is not a static figure; it has to be constantly secured anew. The adaptability to changing competitive requirements is becoming a crucial factor of performance. The company of the future needs to be oriented towards integrated and model-based planning to allow open, flexible and changeable structures and business processes. This paper introduces a model-based method and a tool to adapt the necessary strategies and measures purposefully and continuously to the changing market requirements within the framework of corporate planning.

    The planning of information systems requires discussions between different project groups, within the respective project group, and between experts and managers in the enterprise and the project members. Therefore, the modeling of business processes and the related information systems is an essential step in the process of reorganizing enterprises. The software tool MOÝGO (method of object oriented business process optimization) supports the modeling process based on the IEM method. Different analysis of a given model are available using the MOOGO tool like the planning of informations systems.

    Das Fabrikmodell beschreibt Eigenschaften und Geschäftsprozesse in vereinfachter, systematischer und abstrahierter Form. Es macht die planungsrelevanten Informationen transparent und stellt somit eine Diskussionsbasis für die Planungsbeteiligung dar. Um der Vielfalt der Planungsinformationen und Abbildungsanforderungen der einzelnen Themengebiete gerecht zu werden, wird den Planungsbeteiligten ermöglicht, verschiedene Sichen auf ein integriertes Modell des Fabrikbetriebs einzunehmen (34,36). Dazu wird eine Modellstruktur basierend auf einer einheitlichen Modellierungssprache zu Verfügung gestellt, die es dem Anwender erlaubt, das Betriebsmodell aus seiner Sicht zu beschreiben, Wechselwirkungen zwischen den Sichten im Modell können veranschaulichen sowie alternative Lösungswege dargestellt und analysiert werden. Es werden Modellierungsregeln für die Anwendung der Sprache und den Aufbau der Modelle bereitgestellt.
