    Die Auslagerung von Algorithmen auf Edge- und Cloud- umgebungen nach dem Software-as-a-Service-Paradigma bringt viele Vorteile für autonome mobile Roboter mit sich. Es kann jedoch nicht immer garantiert werden, dass die QoS-Anforderungen der ausgelagerten echtzeitkritischen Funktionen erfüllt sind. Das Bereitstellen von redundanten Kommunikationsmöglichkeiten und Berechnungsknoten sowie robotergesteuertes Umschalten ermöglichen Echtzeitfähigkeit innerhalb dieser unsicheren Infrastrukturen.

    Adapting Ergonomic Assessments to Social Life Cycle Assessment

    In Social Life Cycle Assessment (SLCA), the health and safety aspect of workers is usually evaluated by considering the numbers of injuries and accidents; however, the work related musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs), which dominate occupational diseases, are often neglected in SLCA since the effects do not occur immediately. Thus, the MSDs lead to increased working absences and compensation costs, and also reduced productivity of workers. To address the gap, applying ergonomic assessment is proposed since it identifies and quantifies the health risks at work based on a set of pre-defined criteria e.g. force, posture, repetition and duration, and provides the numeric results analyzing the physical load and their sources. In the study, the application of ergonomic assessment and its indicators in SLCA is displayed to screen risks and to further improve working place design.

    Motion Tracking Applied in Assembly for Worker Training in different Locations

    In cooperation between a German and a Vietnamese manufacturing laboratory, activities of training for assembly are performed by support of motion tracking at similar workplaces. The assembly of bicycle e-hubs is trained with Vietnamese students to check the transfer of assembly process knowledge between distant countries. The experimental set-up consists of the remote ""teach-in"" of assembly instructions, motion tracking on workplaces and the evaluation of student's performance. The applicability of motion tracking vs. traditional paper based instructions for initial learning is investigated.

    To facilitate the transition towards sustainable manufacturing, current practices and mechanisms for value creation need to be reconsidered along the whole product lifecycle. However, academic research on sustainability is still bound to narrow fields of applications. In this study, a multi-disciplinary research project is presented that focuses on the development of a sustainable pedal electric cycle (Pedelec) from a first idea to a ready-to-use prototype. The results of the project show how different scientific approaches for bottom-up improvement can be applied together in a concrete case. A holistic view on the product lifecycle proved as a meaningful framework for that purpose.

    Automated vision-based live ergonomics analysis in assembly operations

    Manual analysis and optimisation of ergonomic parameters can be tedious when process and worker's body size variance is high. Automating this process would reduce workload and enable developing assistance systems for worker support. This paper presents a system which computes the positions of the parts of the body from input depth images and assesses ergonomics scores. The method is based on Particle Swarm Optimisation (PSO). By parallel processing on graphics hardware (GPU), the system is able to provide ergonomic feedback within a few seconds.

    Adaptive Qualification and Assistance Modules for Manual Assembly Workplaces

    Enterprises must be able to make decisions for increasing process effectiveness and efficiency in view of shrinking natural resources. A globalised work force has to be made aware of the challenges in resource scarcity and material wealth. Special attention has also to be paid on health and safety at work due to recent demographic developments. We present two solutions based on human motion capture technology which can improve efficiency while enabling ergonomic working, thus addressing challenges in sustainable manufacturing. With a qualification module, intuitive work descriptions can be generated and distributed. An assistance module automatically adjusts the workplace to enable working in a comfortable pose. First tests regarding our qualification module show the ability to implicitly convey knowledge during simple working tasks. Studies on the assistance module show its capabilities to predict what test subjects working at the workplace would consider as configuration for ""comfortable"" and ""ergonomic"" working.
