Metal-forming machines have characteristically a high energy turnover. In order to avoid energy losses which increase the operating costs and to eliminate thermic problems the design engineer will strive to achieve an adaptation of the drive system to the technological requirements which is as close as possible to the ideal. It is thus essential, already in the design stage, to draw up the energy balance for the complete drive system and for individual components for one working cycle taking into account variable technological parameters. Based on known model-theoretical considerations for computing the dynamic response of hydraulic components and the basic thermodynamic equations for computing the energy a study is made of possibilities for the integration of energy-relevant data into the dymamic computations. The results are demonstrated using the example of a rolling machine drive.
