The upcoming fifth generation of mobile networks (5G) is supposed to enable innovation in industries like factory and process automation by addressing machine-type communication and its requirements of reliability and latency. However, 5G will not immediately fulfill all the requirements raising from industrial applications at reasonable costs. The integration of 5G as a network entity into an industrial communication system is therefore considered as an applicable migration path. In this paper, a flexible and adaptive integration of a 5G mobile network into the industrial Ethernet protocol Profinet utilizing the network slicing concept will be proposed.
