Lab on Chip systems promise compact and highly automated analysis functionality. Whenever a mobile application (Point of Need) is the purpose, also the miniaturization of the necessary infrastructure to drive the microfluidics and the read-out of the biosensor needs to be considered. This paper describes a small, mobile system that implements a Photonic Integrated Circuit (PIC) based biosensor together with a self-pumping microfluidic cartridge and all necessary infrastructure like lasers, power and control. The system’s functionality was proven by performance of an ELISA assay.
