Today the market penetration of micro milling processes on an industrial scale is delayed through the high demand for process knowledge necessary to achieve a high productivity. One way to support the manufacturers could be electronic services that compress the technological know-how of specialists. The paper describes the potentials of such intelligent services in the field of micro milling applications in order to improve overall process performance during the usage phase. In this regard, a method for the systematic development of intelligent services has been designed, which takes into account the technological aspects as well as the business model. On the basis of that method new services for the micro milling process were identified, realized and evaluated. These services can be used to optimize processes, improve visualization and surveillance through the use of real-time virtual reality and machine-integrated measurement technologies.
