Carbon Nanotube Actuators (CNT) have promising properties for a novel class of low voltage and soft actuators. However the production process for the actuators is a potential draw back for industrialisation. The researchers of Fraunhofer IPA working since 10 years on the development of CNT actuators aiming the commercialization. Within this talk the motivation of Fraunhofer IPA will be introduced as well the concept of "out of plane" actuators. This concepts allows to generate force up to 15 Newton at lowest possible driving voltage. Beside the scientific and technical aspects the presentation will bring in multiple applications such as breaking systems and pumps for medical applications.
